Overview

The gangotri–gaumukh trek, a captivating journey in the uttarakhand region of india, is an incredible adventure for trekking enthusiasts and spiritual seekers alike. Starting from delhi, this trek takes you to the holy source of the ganges river, one of the most sacred locations in hinduism.

The trek begins from gangotri, a picturesque town nestled in the garhwal himalayas and an important pilgrimage destination. After a road journey from delhi to gangotri, trekkers embark on the scenic trek toward gaumukh, situated at an altitude of about 13,200 feet. Gaumukh, meaning "Cow’s mouth," is where the ganges river originates from the gangotri glacier.

The trek offers mesmerizing views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks, alpine meadows, and lush forests. As trekkers ascend, they pass through serene landscapes, including bhojwasa, a meadow that provides awe-inspiring views of the bhagirathi peaks. The journey is a blend of natural beauty and spiritual significance, as it leads to one of the most sacred spots in the hindu tradition.

The gaumukh area is known for its pristine environment, with the mighty gangotri glacier being the main highlight. The trek is moderately challenging and requires good physical fitness. The high altitude, cold temperatures, and rugged terrain add to the adventure, while the tranquility of the region offers a spiritual experience.
